Absolutely. A great idea.

Like the music industry is realising now, beyond track/album sales, there is so much more value to be created and captured through the community of passionate fans, with both physical and digital products.

I think the same applies to video. 60 frames and blahgirls launched immediately with a merchandise shops (http://www.cafepress.com/60Frames, http://www.davidandgoliathtees.com/index.php?mode=BLAH) and blah with an interactive game (http://www.blahgirls.com/ask-us/ - however not good enough to pay for).

MMORPG represent an interesting platform for interactive storytelling. I wish I knew more about them.

Thanks for the link to the videos and to 1000 true fans article. Seems that we are somewhat in step in what we write about. :) I just posted a blog entry title: "Electric Farm Entertainment and MMO's like upcoming 'Star Wars - The Old Republic'. A Good Fit?" at http://primetimeforchange.

The post looks at a "fan based" method of ROI (as opposed to "ad based") and examines opportunities to produce new types of interactive stories utilizing an MMORPG type of platform. I think the idea would lend itself to the "1000 true fans" idea.

I also had the opportunity to be a part of a podcast interview with Brent Friedman at: http://www.argnetcast.info/archives/541. Pretty interesting interview in light of the "1000 true fans" idea.
